There are people who use a sword (or club or epee or katana or axe or whatever), and then there are people who are trained in the specific use of their weapon of choice. Big mom specifically uses a sword, while kaido uses a club. Kaido is the strongest character alive.

Ago pirate kaido is the #1 in the verse until proven otherwise. We just know that if shanks is a swordsman mihawk should be stronger. People’s typical response is “shanks is stronger after 6 years and is a yonko now and wasn’t when they dueled. ”.
Except that doesn’t hold any water. Yonkou on a whole are stronger than the 7 lords. Mihawk should be admiral level seeing as fuji is a swordsman and mihawk should be stronger.
Mihawk lost his duel with shanks (it's mentioned right after luffy gets his first bounty), but he's still considered the best swordsman because shanks isn't considered a swordsman like mihawk and zoro are. Probably because he fights with more than just his sword. The show clearly emphasizes multiple times and has made undisputable the fact that mihawk is indeed the world’s greatest swordsman.
Does this mean mihawk is stronger than shanks? The show has clearly defined the yonko to be the 4 strongest pirates in the sea and last time i checked, mihawk is a pirate. Mihawk is stronger than shanks.
The title is worlds strongest, not most skilled, not best, its strongest in actuality, like why would it be mentioned like that if shanks is stronger than him, which makes zoro dream so shallow if that was the case. Yes mihawk haki at the minimum would be close to shanks, we do not know whatsoever. Mihawk beat shanks already and is repeatedly claimed to be the strongest swordsman;

But even a lot of diehard mihawk fans have him as = to shanks rather than > shanks. Which seems to be a contradiction of his title. Better to assume that hakiman shanks is an actual thing even if you think shanks isn’t stronger than mihawk.
That would be consistent with his title.
