The thing is thor does have rocket with him, who probably tracked the massive energy signature coming from that location and thor transported them there with his handy new weapon stormbreaker, which seems to be able to activate bifrost travel. Heimdalls eyes allow him to see all, which explains how he knows where to teleport people and when. Thors plan was to forge stormbreaker to kill thanos, and while going to earth makes logical sense as he knows the remaining stones are there, and he could prepare for thanos, there is absolutely no reason for him to arrive in wakanda. Saying stormbreaker summons the bifrost isn't an answer.
Yes, thor knew thanos was going to earth b/c thanos told the order to go to earth in front of thor. But thor can't see what's at the end of the bifrost, so he can't dial the bifrost to get to a specific place on earth unless he knows where that place is. And thor didn't know about wakanda.
