Hollowing is a statistic in dark souls 3 that is accumulated when the player dies while branded with a dark. At 15+ hollowing, hollow infused weapons and shields will provide +5 luck, which is the primary damage stat hollow weapons scale with. This bonus is only applicable if the weapon is equipped, or visible on the character.
At best you get to bleed in one hit less, at the expense of 40 points you could put in endurance or vigor. Luck as you mentioned directly and proportionally impacts item discovery, so base id is 100+luck (i. e. 99 luck equals 199 id).
In addition it scales damage with weapons with hollow infusion and certain weapons like anri's straight sword. And question #2 as an added bonus: I'm using a broadsword as a main, refined on a 40/40 quality build for a total of 448ar.
